Will
and Jada Pinkett Smith, who just celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary attends Variety magazine’s fashionable 10 Directors to watch and Creative Impact Awards Brunch in Palm Springs on Sunday, show us that they still are the stylish A-list celebrity couple couple they were 18 years ago.

Will Smith’s controversial movie Concussion, was released on Christmas day to mix reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a rating of 60%, based on 100 reviews, with an average rating of 6.1/10. The site’s consensus reads, “Concussion lands a solid, well-acted hit on its impressively timely subject matter, even if its traditional sports drama structure is a little too safe to deserve a full-on dance in the end zone.”

However other critics are saying that Will Smith is losing his box office magic, comparing Concussion’s soft projected weekend earning of 3 to 5 million to the monster opening of ‘Independence Day’ which brought in $75 million its first weekend.

Concussion centered around an accomplished pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu who uncovers the truth about brain damage in football players who suffer repeated concussions in the course of normal play. The movie featured Will Smith, Alec Baldwin, and Albert Brooks.

In an interview with EW this past summer Will Smith explained why he chose to focus on the dark side of Football even though he is a big football fan. He did it because he felt as a parent he needed to help shine a light on the problem of repetitive head trauma in the game of football.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Smith said that the fact that his own son played football in high school helped him realize that he couldn’t let the opportunity to make Concussion go by.

As a parent, the responsibility to bring this information to light was overwhelming…I almost couldn’t say no.

Smith is apparently such a big football fan that he used to fly home from Asia every weekend while his son, Jaden, was filming The Karate Kid in order to watch his other son play high school ball. He confesses it was not because he’s a great father, but rather because he loves football. Having said that, as the father of a boy who played the game, he understands that the information the film provides is knowledge that all parents should have.
