Update: According to reports Justin Combs, defensive back for the UCLA Bruins have been released from the football team due to the actions of his father Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.

After an investigation of events the athletic department of UCLA & Head Coach Mora Issue a Statement On Diddy’s Arrest.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m. today, Sean Combs (also known as P. Diddy) was arrested at UCLA’s Acosta Athletic Training Complex on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, which was a kettlebell. No one was seriously injured and UCPD is investigating. Combs is expected to be transported to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Inmate Reception Center later this evening.

Football coach Jim Mora issued the following statement:

“I’m thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation. This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.”

According to Bruinsnation.com who seems to have the most in depth information of the event reports that after reviewing the tape police took matters in their own hands. The full article can be seen here and is a must read. I have included a couple key excerpts below, which describe actions that followed a verbal confrontation in Coach Alosi’s office reportedly initiated by Diddy.

“In the next moment, according to many on the scene, Diddy attacked Alosi, until interns and other personnel pulled off Diddy. The celebrity broke free again at one point and struck Alosi. The personnel were then successful in getting Diddy out of the office and into the weight room, where Diddy picked up a kettlebell, which is a type of barbell, and then swung in at one of the interns.”

Earlier reports said that Diddy swung a kettlebell weight at Alosi, but this account suggests the target was one of the football interns who apparently helped separate the two. Fortunately, there is still no report that anyone was injured during this encounter.

The above report conflicts with the report that Diddy was assuming a defensive posture with the kettlebell weight, suggesting that coaches and interns were threatening but after police reviewed the video footage No one on the U.C.L.A. staff was arrested.

“UCPD arrived, and the situation reportedly calmed down, and those close to events believed nothing would come of the incident. The UCLA training facility, however, is equipped with security cameras, the police watched the video, and subsequently arrested Diddy.”

Yes, police sometimes arrest innocent and wrongly accused people. But if this account is accurate and campus police did watch the video before making an arrest, it suggests that Diddy could be up against some very serious charges, charges that are supported by video footage. Additionally, the charges have now been expanded.

“Terrorist threats” includes making a verbal threat to harm or kill someone.

This account also suggests that the coaching staff was appropriately trying to keep this in house and resolve it privately, and that it was UCPD who pushed forward with the arrest. According to reports Diddy’s charges are serious enough not to just sweep under the rug as the rap mogul faces up to 20 years in jail if convicted. Diddy has posted bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 13.
