The incredibly strong and limber Serena Williams over powers Bethanie Mattek-Sands after a slow start.

Serena Williams seemed nervous at the beginning, but she rallied back to beat fellow American Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

With the win her dream of an exceedingly rare calendar-year Grand Slam, under grave threat Friday night, remains alive.

Williams came soaring, roaring back to defeat feisty fellow American Bethanie Mattek-Sands 3-6, 7-5, 6-0. The match required 109 minutes, but it felt a lot longer than that.

“I’m not trying to live on the edge,” Williams said in her on-court interview. “I don’t think I came out too slow, I just think Bethanie played really well.

Next up is Madison Keys who defeated Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 6-2 on the Grandstand. Williams beat Keys, 20, in the final of the Australian Open in January. The two play tomorrow where the winner advance to the quarter finals.

Also something to note if Serena wins Sunday she could face her sister Venus Tuesday in the Quarter finals.
