The half-hour comedy, based on the rapper’s immigration from Trinidad in the early 1990’s with her family, will focus on her subsequent rise to fame.
Nicki Minaj was five years old when she and her family moved to Queens, New York. Above is a pic of Minaj and her mom, who Minaj will probably play in the sitcom as the two look just alike.
Minaj recalled, “I don’t think I had a lot of discipline in my household. My mom motivated me, but it wasn’t a strict household. I kind of wanted a strict household.”
Minaj successfully auditioned for admission to LaGuardia High School in Manhattan, which focuses on visual and performing arts. After graduation, Minaj wanted to become an actress, and she was cast in the Off-Broadway play In Case You Forget in 2001. When her acting career failed to take off, at age 19 she worked as a waitress at Red Lobster in the Bronx, but was fired for discourtesy to customers. She said she was fired from “at least fifteen jobs” for similar reasons.
The still-untitled show’s pilot is slated to shoot this winter.
Nicki Minaj is already in search mode on who will play the young Nicki Minaj she tweeted: “Who is going to play the young Nicki?”.
