New Jack City’s Writer Reveals Martin Lawrence And Not Chris Rock Was Suppose To Play Pookie In 80’s Story Of Crack Cocaine Epidemic

It’s been 25 years since the release of the film New Jack City. The film, starring Wesley Snipes, Allen Payne, Ice-T, and Chris Rock, was Hollywood’s first cinematic glimpse into the crack cocaine epidemic that took hold of urban America and made the crime rate sky-rocket as the drug changed the addicted into ‘Crackheads’ who would do anything for just another hit of the strong and very addictive drug.

New information is revealed from the writer who tells Ambrosia For Heads that Martin Lawrence and not Chris Rock was suppose to play the role of the crackhead ‘Pookie’ in the classic urban film.
