In the words of Muhammad Ali “Treat everyday as if it were your last because someday you’re gonna be right.” Such is the case for two influential icons who had a major impact on American culture. The icons lost their lives within 6 weeks of each other but their rich legacies will live on for an infinity.

Prince died April 21st of 2016, and now Muhammad Ali passed away early this morning, June 4rd 2016.

Muhammad Ali paid a touching tribute to singer Prince on Twitter following his shocking death in April, just six weeks before he would pass away himself.

The 74-year-old boxing legend, who died on Friday, called the Purple Rain singer a “genius” in his message posted to his official social media account on April 22 alongside a picture of the two icons together.

He wrote: “We’ve lost a true original. @Prince was someone who cared for others & used his genius to help many.”

The musician met Ali for the first time at a 1997 press conference intended to promote The World Healing Honors, a benefit concert raising money for charities that confronted and worked to eliminate bigotry and prejudice around the globe, according to The Los Angeles Times.

The pair had much in common: both were incredibly talented, shared passionate religious beliefs and used their platforms to speak out about issues most important to them.

On the day they met, the two stars sat onstage together as Prince shared powerful words about his admiration for Ali.

“My friend called me a couple of days ago and asked me. He said, Muhammad wants you to — and I said ‘Yes,’” the singer told a crowd of reporters. “I didn’t even let him finish. He could have said, ‘Mow the lawn,’ and I would have been down with it. Muhammad’s my hero. He has been since I was a child. As you can see, he’s such an inspiration to many people.”

Muhammad Ali left a lasting impact on his many admirers. Even Prince barely kept his cool when met the greatest of all time.
