On an artistic level, there are only a few who come as close as Kendrick Lamar to representing hip hop. Nas at the height of his career but the infancy of hip hop never even won a Grammy and Tupac died before hip hop reached its peak.

But now that hip hop is as ripe as a virgin bride on her wedding night all doors are wide open and the world with an appreciation for hip hop, and Lamar… like Michael Jordan elevated at the base line.

The deep metaphors in his music have his listeners replaying his tracks like pages from a novel, each song is another story to appreciate. And the more you hear the more appreciation you have for his genius as a lyrical storyteller.

His latest effort, the 28-year old rapper gives visuals from two tracks off his 11 time Grammy nominated album “To Pimp A Butter Fly”. In the first part of the video “U” is the total opposite of “I” where he proclaims his love for himself. In the video, a drunken Lamar is in an epic battle with his worst critic… himself.

The Compton MC then cleanses his sins in a pool and surrounds himself with half-naked women for “For Sale?” Subliminal messages flash in between cuts like “Time is change. Your friend or foe” and “If I blame you for a loss. I’m giving you all the credit.”

The 7-minute short film titled God Is Gangsta, is directed by Jack Begert, while the “For Sale?” part, directed by PANAMÆRA, and filmed at Silencio, David Lynch’s nightclub in Paris.

Lamar is as refreshing as your favorite old school recording that you have neglected to listen too for some time. But I WARN YOU… WITH YOUR NEW ENLIGHTEN HIP HOP EAR, THINGS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.
