Jidenna Serves Up Some Sophistication In ‘Classic Man’ For The Consumption Of The Hip Hop Community (VIDEO)
Although called ‘Classic Man’, Jidenna’s look takes you further back in time than what you may consider typical classic for a hip hop artist. Certainly not the classic look of a b-boy or a story teller from the streets, but instead a rather older Harlem renaissance classic where men wore side hair parts, wingtip shoes and club-coller shirts.
But of course he is the protegé of Grammy nominated Janelle Monae who wore tuxedos for the longest and when badgered by a male fans to dress sexier she replied “Sit down I’m not for male consumption”.
Just as Janelle Monae bucked the trend, choosing not to sell her sexuality but develop her fan base organically and strictly off her music. In the same organic mold of Janelle Monae, Jidenna bucks the trend not to wear athletic gear with gold chains and face tattoos.
The Result: A Vintage Harlem renaissance gentleman who is refreshing in a hip hop culture that is in dire need of an image makeover.
The lead single off of Wondaland Records’ upcoming compilation EP “The Eephus” and featuring labelmate Roman GianArthur, ‘Classic Man’ and Jidenna serves up some sophistication for the consumption of the hip hop community.
