And Robert De Niro, who just celebrated his birthday in the film plays the trainer who comes out of retirement to train the Panamanian former professional boxer, widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time.
The film Hands of Stone premiered at Cannes on May 16, 2016 and is scheduled to be released on August 26, 2016 by the Weinstein Company. It is directed and written by Jonathan Jakubowicz, and based on a book by Christian Giudice. It stars Édgar Ramírez, Robert De Niro, Usher, Ruben Blades, Ellen Barkin, Ana de Armas, Oscar Jaenada, and John Turturro.
Follows the life of Roberto Durán, who made his professional boxing debut in 1968 as a 16-year-old and retired in 2002 at age 50. In June 1980, he defeated Sugar Ray Leonard to capture the WBC welterweight title but shocked the boxing world by returning to his corner in the November rematch, saying ‘no más’ (no more).
